Uncharted 4 Delayed Again

Written by Damien

It was announced today on December 23rd by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley that the conclusion to the Uncharted franchise Uncharted 4 a thief's end will no longer be coming out on March 18th as originally planned. The new date for Nathan Drake's final outing has been pushed back a month and 8 days coming out now on April 26th. The reason for the delay is as follows the studio needs a bit more development time to put the finishing touches on its "largest Uncharted game to date."

Naughty Dog also had this to say regarding the delay:
"As we approached our final deadlines and started wrapping up the game's levels, we realized that several key sequences needed extra resources to bring them to the finish line," Druckmann and Straley explained. "Pushing the date is not an easy choice, and we wouldn't do it if we didn't feel in our hearts it's the best course of action for the game."

This would mark the second delay for Uncharted 4 so let us hope the game can finally hit it's release deadline this time as this is surely to be one of PS4's biggest games of 2016.

COLECO Tunnel-Vision: A Return to the Golden Age

Written by Devon

It's almost 2016 and if it wasn't obvious, the gaming landscape is rapidly changing. In the not-so-distant future we will have VR. We have access to incredibly powerful consoles. We have almost entirely eliminated the need for discs on said consoles. However, some of us yearn for a simpler time; A time where gaming came in the form of a cartridge. There was a time when box art meant something. There was also a time when games came with awesome art books and instruction manuals that would give us hints or just something cool to look at. Hell, I remember I never would have beaten Master Blaster if it weren't for the instruction book.

Between the uprise of indie games and the nostalgia of the good ol' days, now seems like the perfect time for COLECO to emerge from the shadows. COLECO has partnered with Retro Video Game Systems Inc. to bring us a new cartridge based console that promises to deliver on all fronts.

The COLECO Chameleon is plans to introduce the masses to a new, modern-day video game system. Its purpose is to act as a modern take on the classic game console and accurately play the games of yesteryear. The Chameleon is equipped to play games in 8-, 16-, and 32-bit styles. Many of today's popular indie titles fit the bill and would be right at home on this console. Shovel Knight anyone?

COLECO is going to bring us brand new games in long lasting cartridges that can be played, traded, and collected for a lifetime. All of the games will include a plastic clamshell cases with illustrated instruction manuals and game developer liner notes.

The Chameleon in a love-letter to our humble beginnings. If you want to see this nostalgiamachine in action, COLECO will be demonstrating the Chameleon at the Toy Fair in New York 2016, February 13-16. Otherwise, COLECO hopes to release the system some time in early 2016.

Steam Sale Winter 2015

Written by AJ

It's that time of the year again, time for the Steam Winter Sale. Open your wallets and get ready to spend some of your hard-earned money on yourself.

A new change to Steam Sales is the removal of Daily Deals and Flash Sales. Instead, the discounted price that you see is the game's lowest price. Now you no longer have to worry if you are getting the best deal, you just have to purchase the game any time during the winter sale.

Highlights

Saint's Row IV: $4.49 - 70% Off

If you are looking for a game to play and have fun with, Saint's Row IV is that game. Between the superpowers, the crazy weapons, and pop-culture references around every corner, Saint's Row IV is a game well worth the $4.49. (The Game of the Year Edition is also 70% Off)

Kerbal Space Program: $23.99 - 40% Off

On my list for Game of the Year, Kerbal Space Program is a game that will eat away the hours of your day. Between making spaceships, to planes, to going on rescue missions for the Kerbin that I've left in space. While the price is higher than you would like for a sale like this, this game is officially only a few months old.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III: $44.99 - 25% Off

This year's Call of Duty has been a bit of a blunder on the PC. This sale may drive some more units, but with the mega success of Counter-Strike as the FPS of choice on PC, getting any Call of Duty to sell on the PC is a tricky task. This sale matches the deal on consoles, with a price cut of $20 for the holiday season.

Devil May Cry Franchise: $4.99-14.99 - 40-75% Off

If you have ever wanted to get into the DmC franchise, now is the time. The DmC remake, and the special editions of both 3 and 4 are part of this sale. The three games are being sold as a bundle for $22.49 - 55% Off , or individually. This is a good deal for anyone interested in this franchise.

Civilization Franchise: $32.99 - 45% Off

This is by far the biggest bang for your buck. This bundle includes Civ III, Civ IV, Civ V and Civ Beyond Earth. Each of these games can easily be over 100 hours each. Each game, and its respective DLCs, are on sale as well. There's a reason that the Civilization franchise is so highly regarded in the 4X world, and these games are the prime examples of the wonderful creations of Sid Meier and his team.

Total Spent: $135.43

Total Savings: $100

This sale has some gems in it. If you wonder if a game on your wishlist is part of this sale, just go ahead and search the Steam website. As always, keep checking in to see what all of the deals are.

The Creator of the Fox Engine Lands a New Gig

Written by Damien

Konami's worldwide technology director Julien Merceron has landed himself a new gig at Bandai Namco. Shortly after Konami announced that they would be shying away from AAA games, which they have since reversed that decision and already begun looking for new talent to develop the next Metal Gear, Merceron decided to leave the company. It wasn't until today however that Bandai Namco released a statement saying Julien will now be playing for their team and quote developing “core technology for contents and production pipelines for various platforms”.

Merceron had this to say about his new position….

“I'm extremely excited to be given an opportunity to make a difference within the amazing Bandai Namco Group, so well-known for its iconic IPs… I'm looking forward to empower the teams I'll be working with and accelerate growth, innovation and creativity. The reach of this group goes well beyond games, it is a true Multimedia and Entertainment Group, so I know I will learn a lot too! Working with so many experienced people and friends and focusing on a wider range of entertainment forms is the chance of a lifetime!”

We know everyone here at Skyematrix will be eagerly awaiting what he comes up with for studio giant Bandai Namco in the coming years.

Tuesday Nintendo had their final Smash Direct showcasing what we can expect for the finale of Super Smash Brothers Wii U and 3DS DLC.

Characters
Corrin

The new character Corrin comes from the new game in the Fire Emblem series Fire Emblem Fates. He will be available in both male and female iterations. Corrin is expected to release sometime in February 2016 and will cost $4.99 on either Wiiu or 3DS or $5.99 on both platforms.

Although no new stage comes with this character it should be noted that some new tracks from his/her upcoming game will be included.

Cloud

Cloud Strife was made available hours after the presentation and Cloud unlike Corrin comes with his own Midgar stage which is accompanied by summons which can alter the battlefield. The summons available on the midgar stage include Ifrit, Rahmu, Odin, Leviathan and Bahamut Zero. Cloud with Midgar will run you $6.99 for both Wii U and 3DS versions or $5.99 for them individually.

Bayonetta

Bayonetta just like Corrin will be released sometime in February 2016 she will come with her own stage titled Umbra Clock Tower an homage to the opening chapter of the sequel game. Bayonetta is expected to play as you would guess and be a combo character equipped with all her hair tricks and demon summons.

Costumes

New costumes were also made available showcasing Geno from Super Mario RPG and a Miles Tails Prower costume from Sonic the Hedgehog.

Amiibo

Amiibo will be created for R.O.B., Roy and Ryu will be made available March 18th it was also confirmed that amiibo will be created for the new characters as well.

And that is it. All in all Nintendo has at least in my opinion done a fantastic job of putting out new content for this game.

Kojima Production *Update*

Written by AJ

***UPDATE***

Hideo Kojima has officially started his own independent studio, Kojima Productions. In a tweet at approximately 1:00 AM EST, Hideo Kojima announced that his contract with Konami had ended December 15th. It didn't take long for the details of what's next to be revealed to the world. The first game that the studio is working on is in close collaboration with Sony, and is a new franchise. Sony has released a video welcoming Kojima into a partnership with the Japanese company:

The game will be a console-exclusive to the PlayStation 4. In an FAQ released by Sony Europe's Community Manager, it was noted that the game would eventually be released on PC.

It is important to note that while Kojima is working with Sony, Sony doesn't own the studio. That being said, this could end up becoming a “second-party” contract, where the studio isn't owned by Sony but they work closely with Sony in creating games for their platform. The details of the contract have not been released yet.

It appears as though the Kojima saga has started a new chapter.

According to Japanese news outlet Nikkei, Hideo Kojima has officially left Konami Studios today (December 15th).

Also, Kojima's next destination could be one that he has a lot of experience with. Included in the Nikkei report, Kojima is creating his own studio with former employees of his Kojima Productions studio. While he is starting his own studio, it appears as though Sony will take him under their wing. This move could have major impacts on the first-party development schedule for both Microsoft and Sony. With Kojima heading to Sony, Sony would have the upper hand in terms of sheer talent under the company's umbrella.

While he won't be able to bring the Metal Gear franchise with him, you can only think that he still has something left up his sleeve.

Previous rumors were that Kojima could go to Microsoft after they purchased the Silent Hill IP from Konami.

These events are still unfolding, so stay tuned to SkyeMatrix to see what happens.

Final Fantasy VII Goes the Episodic Route

Written by Damien

At Sony's PSX conference they showed off the first gameplay footage of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. While the game appears to be coming along, some new tidbits about the game have now been released that are sure to either excite fans or infuriate them.

It was announced that the Final Fantasy VII remake will be released as episodic installments. As quoted by Square-Enix Final Fantasy VII Remake will be “told in across a multi-part series, with each story providing it's own unique experiences.” The price and when we could expect the first episode have not been announced but by how far along the demo looked we could very well be playing episode 1 in 2016. Now it is no surprise that the original Final Fantasy VII was a straightforward JRPG releasing in 1996 it had no DLC or anything and as such was a full game with tons of content.

While not knowing exactly how many episodes will be available a lot of fans are wondering what will be cut and what won't be as well as what will be new. However according to the games directory creator of Kingdom Hearts Tetsuya Nomura the reason for the episodic structure is to make sure the game can be in players hands as soon as possible, he would also like to expand on the universe's Midgar in particular will have no areas to visit that weren't present in the original game. Nomura also goes on to say that the combat in the game will be more akin to Final Fantasy Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts with the actual quote stating the battle systems will be looked at Dissidia then Kingdome Hearts and then FF VII Remake. It should be also noted that although combat is more fast and streamlined you will still have three player parties and be able to control any of them on the fly.
