Sonic Mania

Written by Devon

Thanks to a live stream that I just happened to catch on Facebook, Sega finally announced the details of their newest Sonic game. The new game that is set to celebrate their 25th anniversary is titled Sonic Mania. Here is the reveal trailer.

There was news last month that Sega was planning something and now we know what. It's great to see Sonic return to his roots. This is easily one of my most anticipated games. You can all expect it to release some time in the Spring of 2017. If we have any patient or curious fans out there, they did leave a cryptic message saying that fans should scrub through the trailer frame by frame, as they have hidden some easter eggs in there. Let us know if you're as excited as me to relive your childhood, because Sega does what Nintendon't.

Oh yeah, this isn't coming to Nintendo…

Dead Rising is lurking it's way back onto consoles

Written by Damien

Before players step back in the role of Frank West in Dead Rising 4, they will have the opportunity to relive his first outing in the original Dead Rising. First spotted by a leaked release of the PS4 trophy list, Dead Rising will be coming to PS4, XBOX One and PC this fall Capcom has confirmed.

Capcom also had this to share...

"Capcom will be bringing Dead Rising to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. In addition, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will make their way onto Xbox One and PS4. We will have more news to share soon."

Both Dead Rising games can be described as open world, survival horror games with fun customizable weapons. This is exciting news particularly because the original Dead Rising has never been seen on a Playstation console. It is unknown right now if these will just be ports or full on remasters of these titles but we at Skyematrixgaming will keep you posted as soon as we know more.

Microsoft to ditch Gamescom 2016 in lieu of fan event

Written by Damien

Microsoft has announced that instead of having their traditional press conference at this years Gamescom, the company will be holding an event titled XBOX Fanfest. What exactly is XBOX Fanfest? Well, the event will run from August 18-24th and allow fans of XBOX the opportunity to go hands on with some of the big games releasing for the XBOX One.

The event will run parallel to Gamescom which is held in Cologne Germany. Fans will have the chance to play Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, ReCore and Sea of Thieves. Last year Sony bowed out of Gamescom in favor of Paris Games Week and they too appear to be skipping Gamescom this year as well.

Verdun Comes To Consoles

Written by Devon

Verdun, the World War 1 shooter made by BlackMill Games, is coming to consoles August 30th.

While Verdun is much more realistic than Battlefield 1, the hardcore shooter may have a hard time transitioning to consoles. The game requires extremely precise controls, something much more akin to a mouse and keyboard. Adapting this nuance to controllers may prove difficult. That being said, since the game is made in the Unity Engine, bringing the game to consoles shouldn't be impossible.

While Battlefield 1 will get all of the attention of the masses, Verdun should be able to build an audience of dedicated players. The fact that Verdun will have a two-month head start to build an audience of hardcore shooter fans should help the game sustain itself.

Between one-shot kills and wave-based respawns, Verdun is a great game that tests your cooperation and mental resilience. To keep up on all of your World War 1 news, stay tuned for more.

US Top Gear Cancelled

Written by AJ

In other Top Gear-related news, it was announced that the American Top Gear, hosted by Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara, and Rutledge Wood has been officially cancelled.

In its 8th season, US Top Gear had gone a different route of removing the studio segments and car reviews, in favor of the challenges that many fans loved. For example, the final episode took the three hosts to Havana, Cuba where they found out what a fifty-plus year embargo can do to a country's car culture. In the end, the team were the first Americans to race in an officially-sanctioned race on the island in more than fifty years.

While the show has been cancelled on History Channel, it seems as though the BBC are looking for a new home for the show. It has yet to be determined where this show will end up, but streaming services aren't out of the picture. Seeing as how former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May left to start "The Grand Tour" with Amazon Prime, it seems as though the BBC now has something to compete with.

As always, stay tuned for more of your Top Gear news.

Splatoon's final Splatfest announced

Written by Damien

Nintendo has announced that Splatfest, the side-choosing team-based special event in Splatoon, will be coming to an end after a grand total of 15 events. The final event is the Squid Sisters National Poll: Callie Vs Marie and will take place from 7/22/16 to 7/24/16. This final Splatfest sets itself apart from previous special events by allowing players to pick the level they want to battle for their last time. The poll period started on June 30th, 2016 and will last through August 12, 2016. You can vote for your level of choice over at the Splatfest Poll.

Splatoon released for Wii U on May 28, 2015 and I rated it one of my top 3 favorite games of 2015. But seriously Callie or Marie? How can one even choose?

Chris Evans Quits Top Gear

Written by AJ

Just 6 episodes into the re-incarnation of BBC's hit motoring show "Top Gear", host Chris Evans has announced that he is leaving. While it isn't Captain America Chris Evans, BBC Radio 2 Host Chris Evans is something of a popular personality.

Generally the target of complaints towards the show, Evans announced that he was leaving in a tweet sent out this Monday: "Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them the best."
The BBC has announced that they won't be replacing Evans, instead Matt LeBlanc will take on the role of lead presenter.
There have been rumors coming out of the Top Gear studio that Evans and LeBlanc have had friction between them due to Evans' unprofessional behaviour. While producers have tried to shoot those rumours down, it was announced last fall that Executive Producer Lisa Clark, someone Evans personally brought on, would be leaving the show.
As always, stayed tuned for more Top Gear news.
